Meta Heuristic Harmony Search Algorithm for Network Reconfiguration and Distributed Generation Allocation

Sangeetha N, Prof. Jalendiran J

The operation and control of the distribution network is more complex due to the system loads which vary from time to time. In this case, the power loss will not be minimum for a fixed network configuration. So, there is a need for network reconfiguration from time to time. Network Reconfiguration is a complex combinatorial optimization process aimed at finding a radial operating structure that minimizes the system power losses. This paper proposes a recently developed meta heuristic Harmony Search Algorithm which is conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. This algorithm describes sensitivity analysis for identifying the optimal locations of distribution generation units, which in turn reduces the real power loss and improves the voltage profile in the distribution systems. To study the performance of the proposed method, reconfiguration of network and different scenarios of DG unit locations are considered simultaneously. For finding the objective function, the constraints of voltage profile of the system, branch current carrying capacity of the feeder, radial structure of the distribution system are included. Simulations are carried out on 33-bus system in order to validate the proposed algorithm.
